Camp Doglando

On this week's episode of Canine Connections, Teena Patel discusses Camp Doglando, a summer program that brings together children and canines.

I knew that once Doglando was up and going on the enrichment side of things, I knew that I wanted to find a way to bring children and dogs together in a really unique way, in a, and I use this term reluctantly, in a therapeutic way. By therapeutic, I mean the natural and inherent components of dogs and children working together. And so, I had a program that I had worked on previously, and  I brought it here and called it Camp Doglando. I thought let’s see what happens and proposed it to our members at the time, many of whom had kids, and they were so excited. They signed the kids up, and that was that. This year was our 10th year.

What Is Camp Doglando?
Camp Doglando is a summer camp that allows children to learn more about the responsibilities of dog ownership. The children experience every part of what it’s like to care for and train a dog. From visiting a pet shop and animal shelter to learn more about where puppies come from to getting hands-on experience training dogs, this program helps to increase a child’s understanding of what a dog needs in order to live a happy and healthy life.

While there are multiple sessions of Camp Doglando, sessions often fill up quickly. The program is 10 days long, and applications for the 2021 season will open early next year. To stay updated on the program and learn more, you can visit Camp Doglando.
