The Dog Days

Join Teena as she brings on special guest Laura, who was part of the Doglando journey before Doglando officially opened.

On this very special episode of Canine Connections, I bring on my good friend Laura Manis, who was part of the Doglando journey before Doglando officially opened. Join us in this episode as we discuss the dog days of Doglando and what it was like in the beginning.

When Laura came to us at Doglando, there were so many things going on. For the university to be aligning with someone like Laura, someone who needed us as much as we needed them, it was one of those things that I think has become fundamental to me. It has carried me forward throughout all of the journey of Doglando. Laura taught me to isolate every single issue as its own and to never let it compile. If it were to all compile, I think it would be a very selfish act. And now I am drawing all of these memories of how different Doglando looked at the time that Laura was there versus now. The layout is completely different. What we now call the dorm room was once Laura’s house, her bedroom, where she stayed. It’s amazing. And maybe I see it that way because of the season we’re in now due to the pandemic, which I view as a rebirth. As I reflect back to Laura’s time at Doglando and how it started, there were so many births happening. There was the birth of Doglando. There was the birth of the team. There was the birth of Laura starting her life all over again with two very young children. So many births, and it truly took a village. We always, in every part of our journey, we always need each other. And that was a great way to begin Doglando’s history.
